House Selling Tips and Ideas for preparing your home for the market

If you are selling your home and want to make an immediate impression on prospective buyers, here are some great tips on preparing your property for the market which can increase the value of your home and help insure a quick sale.

Exterior
Prepare the exterior of your house by keeping your grass trimmed along with trimming the edge of your lawn along your laneway, trees, and flower beds. Remove any weeds from your trees, flower beds etc.

Also trim any shrubs or trees that look tired or are in need of some pruning. You may also want to remove any shrubs or trees that have become overgrown on your property and take away from the look of your home.

Clean your windows, add flowers boxes, or repaint your window frames. You can quickly spruce up the look of the entrance to your home by adding some decorative flower pots on your front step. Also by adding new brass door plates, brass door knockers, or brass mailboxes can make a tired looking front entrance look new again.

Odours
Deodorize your home prior to showing by airing your house out, and add some fresh cut flowers to your dining table, kitchen, family room and bathroom.

Bathroom
Install new bars of soap in your soap dish, clean fresh towels and make sure they are all matching. Clean and deodorize your bathroom, add new plants, fresh cut flowers, clean and wash your curtains, add some fresh neutral paint, display clean bathroom jars for soap, cotton balls etc. and keep the toilet seat down prior to showings.

Paint
Paint your house with light neutral colors in order to create a blank slate, so people can envision their own ideas.

Declutter
Remove any clutter in closets, walls, drawers etc. Remove any family portraits or photos to depersonalize rooms.
